Consultation on a proposal to merge City Academy Birmingham and Central Academy

The proposal by CORE Education Trust is to merge City Academy Birmingham and Central Academy to operate as one school from 01 September 2020.

City Academy Birmingham and Central Academy joined CORE Education Trust in March 2018 from their predecessor trust. In the longer term it is the proposal that the newly merged school will move to state-of-the-art purpose-built buildings on one of the school sites, which will enable all students to access high quality classrooms, sports and arts facilities.

In the immediate future the proposal to merge will require the school to operate from the two sites. This proposal would see Year 7 and Year 8 based at the City Academy site on Langley Walk, and Years 9, 10 and 11 based at the Central Academy site on Newhall Street. The merged school will give students access to a broad curriculum and staff access to shared professional learning opportunities.

It is therefore the intent of the trust to merge the academies and operate as one school.
