In our mission to provide our students with a high-quality educational experience, we strive to bring our students a wide range of opportunities and cultural experiences that will allow them to promote excellence and reach their potential. During the Autumn term at Central Academy, students have been taking part in extracurricular and in-school sessions with community coaching staff from Wasps Rugby Football Club and City of Birmingham Rockets Basketball team.
Year 8 students took part in sessions with Wasps Community Foundation coaches during lessons through rain, sun, and wind, developing their abilities to adapt to different playing conditions. The attitude from students was first-class, with Wasps Community Foundation’s Ben Avent praising the student’s commitment and passion:
“I can’t praise them enough; their attitude has been first class and they have been a credit to Central Academy. The students applied themselves really well, giving 110% commitment within lessons.”
The community coach even recommended that several of the students should join a local Rugby club and develop their natural ability for the sport.
Central Academy’s Head of PE/Health said:
“I wanted the students to experience first-hand some outstanding coaching and have the opportunity to learn the game of rugby, eradicating any preconceptions they might have about the sport.”
KS3 and KS4 students have been attending extra-curricular sessions with City of Birmingham Rockets basketball team, experiencing first-hand basketball coaching. The Rockets Schools and Community Officer Emanuel Bradshaw was so impressed with the student’s natural basketball ability and attitude to the sessions that he asked some to attend their Saturday training sessions at the club’s home, Nechells Wellbeing Centre.
We’re very proud of all the students involved!
